Today is Dehydration Day! Are you aware that once you get the signal from your body that you are thirsty, you are already dehydrated? I know you know the meaning of the word ‘dehydration’ but do you REALLY understand what it means? Did you know that dehydration causes pain in your joints, can cause or irritate arthritis and lower back pain?

Here’s the simple why:

Water carries lubricant to your joints. If there is not enough water running through your system then your joints don’t get the lubricant you need and you feel pain.

Water is lost through urination, respiration, and by sweating. Your body also uses up its water supply as you sleep and when you wake (after your 8 hrs of sleep) you are dehydrated. If you are very active, you need to drink more water to replace the extra water you have lost. Diuretics (in other words- liquids that chase the water out of your system) such as caffeine and alcohol result in the need to drink more water because they trick your body into thinking you have more water than you do. Coffee doesn’t quench your thirst, folks. You need to drink a glass of water for every cup of coffee. Symptoms of mild dehydration include chronic pains in joints and muscles, lower back pain, headaches and constipation. A strong odor to your urine, along with a yellow or amber color indicates that you may not be getting enough water. (Note that riboflavin, a B Vitamin, will make your urine bright yellow and is not a sign of dehydration). Thirst is an obvious sign of dehydration and in fact, as I’ve already stated, you need water long before you feel thirsty.

Check out this quote on what happens in more extreme situations:

” In the case of dehydration,  the blood becomes thick and saturated, not being able to  flow properly. The excess of toxins must then be stored within the interstitial space surrounding the cells pending elimination for life to continue,  and over time this space begins to resemble a toxic waste site – an acidic medium. Since the cells cannot have the proper oxygenation and nutrition  they begin to change in form and function in order to survive.
The end stage of this process results in the cells not resembling normal cells at all, and they continue living by means of fermentation rather than the normal oxidative mechanisms. – This is when the oncologist will tell you that you have CANCER” – J.H. Tilden, Toxemia.
Here’s the good news: This is so easy to prevent!! Just drink 8 glasses of water a day, starting off with that one we experimented with last week. The glass you drink as soon as you wake up, before that first cup of coffee. Did you notice you had a bit more energy? If you didn’t try the experiment last week- you can still try it this week:

Every morning when you wake up, starting Monday, drink a full glass of water before you hit the coffee. If you don’t drink coffee, then great! That water will replenish your system which is dehydrated after sleeping 8 hrs. This gives you energy and flushes out your system. Add a squeeze of lemon for a little extra toxin cleanse. Note how you usually feel, and then note how you feel by Friday. Are you as exhausted as usual? How does your skin look?
