What would you do differently if you knew you would be hit by a truck tomorrow?

Seriously. It recently happened to someone I know.

One of my best friend’s brothers, Bob Bowen, was recently killed in Manhattan. He was riding his bicycle in Manhattan around 59th and 2nd Avenue and was hit by a truck, who seemingly ran him right over and left the scene. He was 45 years old and has 2 children. He was an amazing bass player and artist and had a free, loving and open heart.

I did not know him well, but I went to the Memorial Service this past Monday. What an amazing outpouring of love, friendship, music and dance. People were celebrating Bob’s life full out. Many people took center stage to share stories and feelings about Bob.

At one point, my friend Gina turned to me and said “Huh. I bet people wouldn’t say such nice things about me after if I died.”

A couple of points here. First, I have many wonderful things to say to and about Gina, so why doesn’t she know that?Because I haven’t taken the time to tell her. I told her I would give her a living eulogy. Why is it that we wait until people are dead to tell them how much they mean to us? Please don’t wait. You never know when someone you know is going to die. Bob was perfectly healthy. He just happened to get in this particular driver’s way at the exact wrong moment. And just like that, POOF, his life is gone. So make that call, send that card, make a date- tell someone you care about how much you appreciate them. Don’t wait until they are dead.

Or until YOU are dead! This could happen to anyone. We are so fragile. You are responsible for your moments on this planet, including this one right now! Are you spending it the way you want to spend it? If not, WHY NOT!? It doesn’t and will not last forever. Live your life, right now. Take one step towards your dream. Do it now. You may not get a chance tomorrow.

Bob has (had) two children- Stella and Bobby. If you would like to contribute, any amount is appreciated. Go to www.paypal.com and login. Then click on ‘send money’ and type in bobbowenchildrenstrust@gmail.com. I just did.
