Today Professional Success Coach Ivy Slater Rachlin and I led another Healthy Hangout Event for women. We asked what topics people were interested in, and we got back Time Management, so that’s what we went with. So many of us need help in this area,  it was perfect.

Our events always begin with my Yoga/Pilates Fusion class and it’s such a lovely supportive environment. Perfect for beginners because the space is supportive and nurturing, and also for more advanced practitioners who want some time for themselves to relax and breathe. 

How did I relate Pilates and Yoga to Time Management? Simple: you can change your perspective of time  by taking time for yourself to do a practice like this (I highly recommend meditation when you can’t get to a class). Your day to day activities default to your beta brain wave- which can translate to the first gear of a car. Now imagine trying to get all of the things on your ‘to do’ list accomplished while in first gear (because that’s most likely what you are doing). When you meditate, or do a yoga practice, or Pilates- you switch your brain gear, so to speak. So imagine trying to do the same amount of things on your to do list in 2nd gear. More gets done in less time. Now imagine third gear. And so on…

So by taking time out to enjoy a class like this, you are actually making yourself more effective. You will get more done in less time, and be happier about it. It won’t feel like ‘work’. Doesn’t that sound fantastic?! No more pushing through in first gear! Here’s the ticket to move into a more productive and easeful gear.

This is not a quick fix- it does take practice. So when will you start?

Ivy suggested at the beginning and the end of her discussion that we take one small step from our workshop to move ourselves forward with time management. What is one thing we want to get done, and what one thing can we do to move us towards accomplishing that goal? For me, it was to take more time for myself. I am always involved in helping other people achieve their goals, and I LOVE it! But if I don’t take time to take care of myself I end up out of integrity and burnt out. So I am firmly going to stand by taking one day off a week from here on out. If you catch me breaking the rule, call me out!
