Yesterday was kind of crummy. I went downtown to teach (that part is ALWAYS good), got to wander around to World Trade Site which was nice because I’m never down there. Then I made my way back uptown to my apartment with my head filled with things to do and how I was going to get it ALL done and be SO productive!

As soon as I got home a wave of overwhelm hit me in the face. The apartment needed to be cleaned, I have more than 5,000 emails in my inbox that need to be dealt with, I’ve got to plot out a marketing program and write copy for it, call the credit card company for a refund on an item I was charged for twice, make myself food, call my Mom, check out Quickbooks online, and blah blah blah yadda yadda, you get the point.

So I watched a tv show and fell asleep.

Woke up feeling, honestly, pretty shitty (though not tired anymore). I did make some headway late last night. I think part of the thing with being overwhelmed is that you feel like whatever you do is barely going to make a dent so what is the point? I have to tell myself that every little dent DOES make a difference and if you keep on ‘denting’ you will only get you closer to where you want to be. Baby steps. Keep on keeping on…

I vowed to do better today. I had a dr.’s appointment first thing so I grabbed my purse and headed out the door. Just then a book fell off the table and landed at my feet. Title: “The Power of Flow”. I had read some of it a few years back and liked it and recently pulled it back out to look through. Clearly the book wanted to be read, and so I threw it in my purse.

Sat at the dr.’s office reading it for an hour. I’ve gotta tell you, it’s kind of extraordinary. This book defines flow as “the natural, effortless unfolding of our life in a way that moves us toward wholeness and harmony”. Just then, a friend that I was thinking about sent me a text message. Then I came across an email that talked about ways of overcoming overwhelm. I was feeling a little more in flow~

We have all had experiences of being in flow. The book suggests that in those ‘flowy’ times, we feel we’re in the right place at the right time doing the right thing. It just feels right. We are both exhilarated and peaceful, somehow connected to something larger and greater than ourselves, whether religious or not. Life feels right with meaning, magic and purpose and we are vital, alive and joyful! For most of us, this feeling happens every now and then, but not as often as we would like. So how do you harness this flow thing?

Well, you could buy this book- it’s really pretty awesome. Or you could just take a step back and loosen the reigns. The lesson that I learned is that I try too hard to control things that I cannot control. I am not going to return 5000 emails. I am not going to get the marketing plan done in an afternoon. I cannot control life.

And, magically, the more I let go, the more that goes my way. Synchronicity is the Universe’s way of supporting you. You have stated what you want, and you are letting the larger life force of the Universe do it’s thing. It may not deliver in the way you quite expect, but it will deliver. You can pray, do affirmations, state declarations, it’s all putting the energy out there in a way that the larger than us life force can support.

Flow responds directly to our beliefs, behaviors and actions. It is always available to us, it’s just a matter of how we think that determines whether or not we can access it. When we become fearful, doubting, and controlling- our flow diminishes and our days are filled with blocks and frustrations. No more synchronicities.

So loosen up the reigns, and enjoy the ride!

Personally, I’m glad the book fell on the floor. Today has been a much more joyful day than yesterday. There is still a ton to do, but I’m making dents and enjoying the journey.

So go with the flow. Let go and see what happens…
